PASMI Polish Association of Self Medication Industry supports the decision of the Ministry of Health to create a strategic document whose task is to provide patients with wide access to effective and safe medicines. During the works on the Drug Policy, PASMI also called for the deletion of provisions regarding food supplements, because these products are not used in pharmacotherapy and leaving them in such a strategic document would mislead patients as to their use.
The final version of the Drug Policy approved by the Government does not include references to food supplements.
“Leaving this product category in the National Drug Policy would only deepen the wrongly attributed medicinal properties to food supplements, which we definitely do not want, which is why the decision of the Minister of Health to remove them was highly just.” – says PASMI’s President, Ewa Jankowska.
In the National Drug Policy great importance is attached to improving the rationalization and safety of pharmacotherapy by adhering to patient recommendations and increasing health literacy of the society, PASMI intends, in the near future, to focus more on educating patients in the area of conscious, responsible treatment affecting the safety of using OTC drugs.
