PASMI requests NIL to provide the report

PASMI Polish Association of Self Medication Industry has requested through the access to public information the National Medicines Institute (NIL) to provide  an analytical report of studies conducted by NIL for 50 food supplements sold in pharmacies.

In 2019, there were over 14000 food supplements notified to the Chief Sanitary Inspector and a year ago it was about 13000. By far only 50 products were tested, therefore the NIL statement presented in the media communication that 1/4 of the food supplements available on the market have a composition inconsistent with  declared on the label, and mislead consumers. This may result in the cessation of food supplements by people who should supplement minerals, vitamins or other ingredients whose deficiencies occur in their body.

“Pharmaceutical companies associated with PASMI, which in addition to OTC medicinal products also have food supplements in their portfolio, take full responsibility for the quality of products placing on the market.”- said Ewa Jankowska, President of PASMI’s Management Board. “Bearing in mind the health of patients and consumers, we requested NIL to provide data that will allow us to verify whether the subject of National Medicines Institute studies were also  PASMI’s member companies products. In case of confirmed information, PASMI’s companies will take actions to guarantee consumers the highest quality supplements. “– added Ewa Jankowska, President of PASMI’s Management Board.

A food supplement is a foodstuff which purpose is to supplement a normal diet, being a concentrated source of vitamins or minerals or other substances with a  nutritional or other physiological effect.
